Areas of Expertise

Psychotherapy

In the traditional sense, psychotherapy can be utilized to treat a variety of mental health disorders.  As a clinician, I prefer to utilize solution-focused treatments to assist clients in meeting their goals.  With extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral treatments, treatment plans will be specifically tailored to meet goals in therapy.

Play Therapy

With specialized training in play therapy, this is the preferred modality to meet treatment goals for children under the age of 13.  Utilizing a variety of toys representing various forms of expression, the child is guided in resolution of their difficulties through the use of play.

EMDR

While it was originally designed to treat traumatic events,  EMDR has been extensively researched and found to be effective in treating PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety.  Allowing the brain to resume it's natural healing process, it can be completed in fewer sessions than traditional methods of treatment.

My Approach

With over 25 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist, I approach each case with the expertise I would want my family to have.  Originally from Nebraska, I completed my undergraduate training at the University of NE at Kearney and then moved to Springfield to complete my graduate training at Forest Institute.  I have worked in a variety of settings in Southern Missouri including community mental health, inpatient Child/Adolescent, private practice, and higher education.  With my experience in clinical settings and experience training young professionals, I continue to stay current with new treatment methodologies.

My expertise is in treating children and their families, but I also enjoy working with young adults.

Payment
Cash, check, HSA, and all major credit cards are accepted for payment.
The No Surprises Act, which is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, is designed to protect clients from receiving unexpected medical bills. The Good Faith Estimate provision of the No Surprises Act is designed to give clients an estimate of how much they’ll be charged for the healthcare services they’ll be receiving, prior to their appointment.

Cancellation Policy
We require 24-hour notice to cancel appointments. If you do not show up to your appointment and have not notified me by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance, you will be charged the full amount of the missed session.

Insurance
I am an out-of-network provider for most insurance companies.  This means that at the end of each session, you will be responsible for providing payment in full.  We will provide you with an invoice that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.  Because we value confidentiality and believe that you and not your insurance company should guide your therapy, we do not participate directly in any managed care plans. Too often, managed care companies predetermine the necessity of therapy, while we believe these needs should be determined through a collaborative process between you and your provider, driven by your personal progress and needs.  Contact your health insurance company about how much they reimburse for out-of-network mental health providers.
